Toulouse was a stop on this year’s Tour de France. The folks of Toulouse like chowing down on waterfowl, especially the livers, pate and other fatty products of it.
I do to. Did you know that scientists are finally starting to see the heart-healthy benefits of duck and goose fat? I mean, when was the last time a duck died of a heart attack while you were taking a picture or taunting it with some stale bread over at the duck pond?
No really: a study was done, focusing on men in Toulouse (who, it turns out, eat lots of goose liver pate). It found heart disease in 78 out of 100000 men, which was half the rate compared to men who live in Stanford, California, even though the Stanford men had a lower serum cholesterol level.
So there.
Don’t be so afraid of getting goosed in Toulouse when you duck into the narrow alleyways. I’d get a place in the old quarter, in the Toulouse holiday get away shown on the left.
You’ve got your own garden area for when you’re all tired out from hoofing it through the historic center and you yearn for a casual stroll through a calming interior courtyard.
You’ll be glad to know that the place is quite a bargain. Where else can you sleep for for 500 to 640 Euros a week?
And really, the food is incredibly good in Toulouse. Even if goose isn’t your thing. You can chow down on Saucisses de Toulouse, an herbed sausage, or cassoulet Toulousain, a bean dish like no other bean dish.
Give Toulouse a try. If music is your thing, don’t miss the Toulouse summer festival in July and August when the streets fill with jazz, rock, electro music, new traditional music, waltz and tango.
You’ll love your inner courtyard then won’t you?
