I’ve always been a bit of a contrarian. When something bad happens, I figure the chances of it happening again right away are near zero. Yes, statistically I’m wrong, but when bad things happen, people usually get hyper-prepared for the next event and then start to slack off. So maybe I’m not so wrong as I think I am.
In any case, perhaps you’re of the same mind. You’re thinking, “the pressure’s off. Greece is the place to go.” You know you can save a bundle of cash renting a house. The holiday cottage over there to the left is on the Greek mainland, the Peloponnese, near Kalamata and not so far from Athens. It’ll sleep four, and it goes for cheap until the middle of June.
Greeks have always been some of the friendliest people in Europe to me. Renting a stone cottage like this in the countryside, yet near some pretty nice tourist places, sounds like a great idea for folks who like natural scenery and friendly people and aren’t especially looking for a beach experience.
I like going to Greece in the off season. In summer, Greek food tends to be on the light side. Yes, perfect for summer temperatures, but not much of a challenge for a chef–or even the guy with the grill who feeds folks in his back yard. But when the weather cools the stews that are traditionally made in Greece can be a revelation.
Plus, like I said, the off season in Greece brings with it some amazing prices.
