Saving money through luxury? Is that nuts or what?

Well, with the Dollar sinking to all time lows against the Euro, most of us need to save some green. But luxury?

Ok, look, you can rent a villa in Tuscany, like Viale al Salicone over there on the right, for a cool $3863 a week. But wait, it sleeps 16! Ok, so you get the bridge club all lathered up over going to a top notch Tuscan spa town (Montacatini Terme, one of Tuscany’s best, is a mere 10 km down the road) and you split the costs. What does it come to? $70 a night per couple. Yep, if my math is right, that’s much cheaper than you’re gonna find 8 hotel rooms for. And we’re talking restored villa here, not some two star econobox near the train station.

When you’re scheming to beat the weak dollar, don’t forget to think luxury and friends. Think about places like Villa Il Salicone. If you don’t have 8 couples you’d like to live with for a while, maybe a smaller place in Montacatini Alto would do for about the same price per night.
